Supersonic Percussion Ensemble was formed by Alex Pope in January 2009 and the ensemble is funded and operated by Southampton Music Services (www.southamptonmusic.org.uk). Featuring over 15 talented musicians from the Southern regions, we are proud to represent Southampton as the only senior level Youth Percussion Ensemble in Hampshire.

Since 2009 the group have performed several concerts including at the National Festival of Music for Youth, Southampton Schools Music Association Proms, The Southampton Guildhall and the Guildhall School of Music in London. Most recently Supersonic performend at the renowned Gambrinus Music Cafe in Italy, previously the stage of stars such as Pavarotti.

The ensemble take part in regular workshop and master-class sessions with professional musicians. Previous workshops include a Percussion Masterclass with Jackie Kendall, Body Percussion with Greg Felton, Steel Pans with Andrew Purkiss and several collaborations with Jan Faulkner and Simone Rebellos. In March 2012, Supersonic will be performing once again with Percussion legend, Simone Rebello at the Turner Sims Concert Hall as part of the Musical Alphabet Cultural Olympiad series for the BBC.

Supersonic perform regularly with the Showcase Percussion Association in large scale concerts aimed at providing free performance opportunities for youngsters within the Wider Community. SPA aim to inspire a larger take up in instrumental tuition in the UK.
